Chris Pyrate No Real Death

Public Art Location: NW 2 Ave & NW 29 St, Miami.

DC-Born & raised, international muralist, Chris Pyrate, is like his work; multidimensional and a creative disruption. As an internationally-renown muralist, streetwear designer, curator and vocalist. He has tapped into an array of industries converging his skills into pure talent that profoundly influences the masses. Born in the South East quadrant of Washington DC, Chris attended The Art Institute of Washington where he pursued music concurrently with his true passion for art, followed by stints of basing in both Brooklyn and Miami until returning home in 2019 to help forster the burgeoning creative scene in DC.

He honed his skills doing storyboarding, major brand apparel design, publication illustrations in New York , painting murals in Miami’s Wynwood Art District, and curating for Miami Art Basel. With a hyper-detailed but stylized approach to linework, Pyrate’s art recalls that of beloved comic book artists Moebius, Geof Darrow and Frank Quietly.

He’s recently released a shoe design with Nike and is opening his second gallery.

Brian Cattelle Marit C, Pen Thief

Brian Cattelle Marit C, Pen Thief

Public Art Location: Biscayne Blvd & NE 31 St, Miami.

Bio: For Brian Cattelle photography is an escape, a way to explore the world, studying every detail of the simple things. It gives him an opportunity to find beauty in unexpected places and in all walks of life. It forces him to challenge and push the bounds of his comfort zone, enabling him to grow as a person and as an artist. Over the years he has explored a wide range of photographic narratives while remaining loyal to his black and white roots

Brian has had a number of notable accomplishments which include a few international contests, features in publications, art shows, galleries, and large commissioned projects. These accomplishments only help fuel the fire that keeps him going.

Artist Statement: This Photo appropriately titled Marit C, Pen Thief is from a project called “Got Caught Stealing”. Got Caught Stealing is a series of portraits featuring individuals with stockings over their heads, distorting their faces. Accompanying each portrait is a recording, and/or text of the individual confessing to a theft. The stockings serve a dual purpose: one being a symbol of thievery, the other as a means of producing humility. These themes place us all on the same level.

Everyone is guilty of theft in some form or fashion, and humility coerces a confession. These are common threads that connect us all together. When we can openly admit our flaws, we grow closer to one another giving this project profound social implications and benefits.

In the case of Marit C, well she is a self-proclaimed pen thief. She said “Yah I stole a pen from the bank, I'm a pen thief, so what, I don't care”.

Got Caught Stealing is looking for participants. If you would like to confess to theft and get a portrait taken with a stocking on your face please contact Brian Cattelle at brian.cattelle@gmail.com or leave him a voice mail at 207-735-7786
